Electronic lodgment and payment requirement for businesses with $20 million or more GST turnover
17 Apr 2013
The ATO advises that businesses with a GST turnover that meets or exceeds the electronic lodgment turnover threshold of $20 million are legislatively required to:
- lodge their business activity statements electronically and
- pay their tax debts electronically.
The ATO has been contacting businesses (and their tax agents) to notify them of their obligations and support their move to electronic lodgment and payment.
Where electronic lodgment and/or payment does not occur, businesses can be subject to a penalty. These penalties are currently 5 penalty units each, equivalent to $850 per event.
For further information, see PS LA 2011/2 - Administration of penalties for the non-electronic notification (NEN) penalty and non-electronic payment (NEP) penalty.
