I just want to heartily endorse the comments of Member 267 in TaxVine 38. The whole “correspondence preferences” debacle has caused my small practice a lot of disruption. We are still trying to work out what correspondence goes where and just as importantly, who (if anyone) gets notified when it does.
The messaging on myGov about communication preferences is confusing for clients. With STP causing many clients to use myGov for the first time recently, we have lost visibility of a significant volume of client correspondence. As Member 267 indicates, expecting agents to check communication history in case something has issued for clients is ridiculous.
