13 Dec 1111 Improving the accuracy of data held in the ABR
The ATO advises that to improve the accuracy of data held in the Australian Business Register (ABR), the Registrar will be reviewing and cancelling any Australian business numbers (ABNs) where their records indicate that persons are not carrying on an enterprise.
If an agent's client has their ABN cancelled, they will receive a letter providing the reason and their review rights. If the client does not agree with the Registrar's decision to cancel their ABN, they can object. If they can show that they are entitled to have an ABN, their registration can be reinstated.
