15 Sep 1111 JSCPAA Biannual Public Hearing with the Commissioner of Taxation

On Friday 23 September 2011 the Federal Parliament's Joint Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Audit will conduct its ninth Biannual Public Hearing with the Commissioner of Taxation in Canberra. The Tax Institute has been invited to appear before the Committee and has accepted the Committee's invitation.

There is currently one submission from the ATO including Appendices 1 - 9.

In para 39 of the submission, in relation to complaints, the ATO says:

"The average time taken to resolve a complaint has improved from 33 days in the first half of 2010–11 to 26 days in the second half. We expect this to reduce further as the effect of clearing 'aged' cases flows through. There are also early indications that complaint volumes are trending down and may return close to July 2008 levels..."
