The ATO advises that agents may receive lodgment reminder letters for senior taxpayers who have one or more overdue income tax returns.
These clients may have been listed as priority clients in previous Lodgment Alerts that the ATO issued to the agent. The ATO says that it appreciates managing the lodgment of these returns may involve working through issues of a sensitive nature. However, the ATO's records indicate that taxable income was received by these clients, which they may have a requirement to report.
The ATO requests that clients:
- review their financial records and their requirement to lodge
- provide a return not necessary advice, if taxable income was below their threshold
- submit tax returns that require lodgment as soon as possible.
