The ATO responds to an issue raised by MEMBER 64 in 2014 TaxVine No 18 (30 May 2014) about ATO debt collection practices.

“It is possible that contact information on a client account can be incorrect or out of date. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. In this instance the tax agent’s phone number should have been removed from the client account by the Officer.

With tax time fast approaching, now is a good time to update client lists and remove those you are no longer representing. To avoid unnecessary contact from the ATO, it is recommended that all tax agent contact details including addresses and phone numbers be removed at the same time.”
