The ATO responds to an issue raised by Member 68 in 2014 TaxVine No 20 (13 June 2014) about updating former clients’ details.

“The ATO has contacted the agent and will ensure that the agents’ previous client’s postal address is updated.

We will also review our procedures to ensure that Registered Agents are not directed to re-add clients in these circumstances in the future.

When a Tax Agent is no longer representing a client; they can add or delete contact details and update the client details via the Tax Agent Portal when removing the client, to ensure they are not contacted unnecessarily.”
