More on making it hard for the elderly - the ATO responds
In 2014 TAXVINE No 43 (21 November 2014), Member 184 wrote about one of his elderly clients who was still working and who, after nine years of completing his own simple return, had come back to the member to prepare his return because of the difficulties involved.
THE ATO NOW RESPONDS
"Thank you for your feedback on helping our senior citizens to meet their tax obligations.
We are committed to making it easy for people to participate and we understand that not all taxpayers are able to lodge online. Where a taxpayer does not have online access they can contact the ATO on 13 28 61 and order paper copies of the Individual tax return instructions 2014, Tax return for Individuals 2014 and Tax return for individuals (supplementary section) 2014 to be posted to them.
Senior citizens are eligible to access the Tax Help service that has been running for more than 25 years. Tax Help is a network of community volunteers who help particular groups of people complete their tax returns during tax time. This free and confidential service is suitable for people with simple tax affairs who earn around $50,000 a year or less."
