More on the 85% lodgment requirement - the ATO responds
In 2014 TAXVINE No 32 (5 September 2014), Member 129 wrote that the ATO has no procedures attached to the 85% lodgment program to take out of the equation clients that have various issues and therefore a lodgment cannot be done, eg, deceased estates where no executor has yet been appointed and there are court procedures, clients in war zones overseas and clients where mental illness is involved. This left the Member with no option other than to take these clients off their listing.
THE ATO NOW RESPONDS
"We acknowledge that exceptional and unforeseen circumstances may impact your ability to lodge by a due date on behalf of your clients.
This may include where your clients are members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) or are non-ADF taxpayers affected by war.
If exceptional and unforeseen circumstances occur, you can submit a deferral request by completing the current online application and lodging through the Tax Agent Portal or BAS Agent Portal.
Information on deferrals is available on the ATO website here"
