16 Jul 10 More on the costs of "Quality Assurance"MEMBER 213 writes, in response to Member 200's comments in 2010 TAXVINE No 27 (2 July 2010):
"I agree with the comments made by MEMBER 200 about the private sector providing a free review service to Government especially with respect to tax legislation. I know that it is better to fix it before it becomes law BUT it is our fees funding this work. More specifically, in the same vein, I am fed up with the ATO and thus the Government pushing more and more costs onto the private sector with respect to running the taxation system. With self-assessment, the private sector is using all of its resources to collect all forms of tax. Many taxpayers are self employed individuals who cannot recoup their time being a tax collector. Finally, taxpayers are required to download and print (at their cost) more and more papers and forms again saving the ATO and Government more money. There has to be a recognition of this cost."
