"I have applied for 3 ABNs in the past 4 days. Everyone was allocated a reference number only. What a waste of tax payers resources, not to mention a waste of my time. In 10 days I will ring the ATO. They will put me on hold and within 5 to 10 minutes will give me an ABN over the phone.
More than likely not a single question regarding the ABN application will be put to me. (Past experience tells me this.) In the past I have had a 50/50 success rate. Apply & receive ABN. The next application usually results in a reference number being allocated. At least this was almost acceptable. 3 out 3 with no ABN is not an acceptable outcome.
Instead of the ATO moving forward they are moving backwards. The ATO again shows its complete lack of interest in tax agents and their workloads."
