We recently lodged a tax return for a client who advised us that she would be travelling for 12 months. 

The ATO issued a notice of assessment to the client’s myGov account and I believe she received an email of notification. 

As she was travelling overseas, the Australian Government internet firewall prevented her from accessing her myGov account from overseas. Hence she could not access her assessment, could not access her payment slip and could not pay her tax bill. 

It’s a good thing she has a tax agent who can sort this out for her. If only the ATO had sent the assessment notice to the tax agent in the first place, there would be a lot of time saved for both parties.
