"Was curious as to why a client’s 'Income Tax Account' on the Portal showed the 2010 ITR having been processed on 24 December 2010 (date of lodgment) with an effective date of 24 November 2010 (no idea), but no sign of an assessment. Rang the appropriate section this morning (20 January 2011) and was told that processing of the return wasn’t even complete. The case will now be “escalated”, but will they charge interest on an unassessed debt? Seriously, how can they pretend to tell us that their system works?
