"I empathise with Member 114 - see 2011 TAXVINE No 26 (8 July 2011). Sometimes you just feel the need to confront those who are making your life hell on earth!!!! No amount of consultation or platitudes can mask that which is fast becoming a farce....

On a brighter note, we wrote to the ATO in relation to a matter in which that office was behaving delinquently, demanding a response in accordance with legislative provisions; in that correspondence, we reserved the taxpayer's right to compensation because of detriment suffered (including our mounting fees).

We were pleasantly surprised to receive not one, but two apologetic phone calls from the ATO, advising that the matter would be referred to 'a specialist' (note to self - still waiting with bated breath)...

I hate to think that we are going to have to resort to confrontation in all cases; I would much prefer to work with that agency in the proper administration of client affairs."
