"I recently tried to log onto the ABR to update the records held for my own SMSF. The first hurdle was that I had to personally apply for an Auskey (couldn't use my practice Auskey) to access the records. Having got my own Auskey I logged on and was given the option to update the new details online (2 new members, delete old trustee, appoint new trustee and delete 1 member) - tried 5 times to do this online and was rejected every time. A 1 hour phone call to the ABR ensued and the person there also tried to update some of my changes online - again no joy so was informed to lodge a paper form!!! Then had a 90 minute phone call with the ATO and finally the person there was able to register the 5 changes to my details at their end. Having spent close to 3 hours to make 5 changes my question is, why does the ABR provide an online update service that doesn't work?"
