"Just had another of those annoying telephone calls from the ATO. Yep, I had to identify myself to ensure I was who I said I was and needed to provide my tax agent number, I did so only to be informed that no this was not the correct one but the name attached to it was correct. I have a rather individual surname and it is not common at all. I realised that the tax agent number I needed to provide was an old one from about 5 years ago. At which point I advised the officer from the ATO that the conversation was about to stop as I knew then all he wished to do was chase up an outstanding tax debt. I will continue to cease dealing with the ATO if they cannot maintain their databases accurately. What is the Tax Ombudsman doing about this ineptness?"
