"Today I answered the phone to be greeted by a recorded message from our fearless ATO instructing me to ring a 1300 number Monday to Thursday between 9am and 8pm (Fridays must be their day off) to speak to them about a client named Michael ****. I could not understand the pronunciation of the surname, and I am to quote a reference number that had countless numbers in it. At the end of the reference number the machine stated that if I wanted to hear the message again I should press 1, which I did, the only problem being that I could still not understand the surname and the machine did not repeat the reference number.

I have a new policy in my practice and that is that I do not speak to robots so if Mr Taxman wants to talk to me they need to pick up the phone and talk, not get a stupid machine to do it. I have been in this game for 34 years and I have never been so p****d off. Thanks to TAXVINE for giving me the opportunity to vent my spleen."
