“Our IT section has advised us that the ATO Portal login will no longer support the Google Chrome browser. As Chrome appears to be, if not already the dominant, well on the way to becoming the dominant, browser used worldwide (see http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp, http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php), it is astounding that the Portal logins can no longer be achieved using Chrome. You get an error message as follows: Unexpected system error (Error Number: A927.42)”
THE ATO NOW RESPONDS
“Google are planning a release for Chrome Browser sometime in April/May that will render the browser inoperable with AUSkey. As the member will understand, the AUSkey provides the ability for practitioners to access the Portals. AUSkey is provided by the Australian Business Register to all government agencies as a user authentication tool and as one of those agencies, the ATO is reliant on this service to permit access to its online systems.
At this time there is no indication when the Australian Business Register will change AUSkey so it can support future versions of Chrome browser software. The unfortunate effect of this is that users will not be able to use Chrome to access the ATO Portals.
Further information about AUSkey Browser compatibility is available here.”
