“This week I received a telephone call, on my mobile phone from Baycorp – phoning on behalf of the ATO – obviously debt collecting.
Ten years ago, we purchased a practice from a sole practitioner. At that time, as he was an avid mobile phone user, I took over his mobile phone number as my own.
The person calling asked for this gentleman. The client that Baycorp was phoning about had been his client, became ours, but moved on to another accountant about five years ago.
Yet the ATO still has a telephone number from three tax agents ago!!!”
