"I dutifully went to the Post Office to pay my client's BAS/IAS for the June quarter. I took with me the email from the ATO regarding incorrect payment slip bar codes. Several were not able to be paid as the EFT code did not fit in the Australia Post system, it seems the clients without an ABN were in this category.

I now have to post the payments and hope the ATO person processing them applies them to the correct account. What are the chances?

This problem could have been easily solved by sending replacement forms but instead we have to trust in a 'system' that has already failed us on this issue. Needless to say the folks at Australia Post were a bit bewildered by it all...

Perhaps the ATO should introduce a subject for their own employees along the lines of 'Timely Practical Decision Making'."
