MEMBER 178 refers to the recent advice from the ATO which states as follows:
"Two different rebates
From 1 April 2014, private health insurance rebate percentages were subject to an annual adjustment.
This means there will be two different rebates to enter in your clients' returns for each tax year:
- from 1 July to 31 March, and
- from 1 April to 30 June.
These different rebates appear on your clients' private health insurance statements as two separate lines. "
MEMBER 178 now writes:
"The ATO is warning about agents not doing the correct thing and therefore causing delays to processing because there should be two lines of information in regard to PHIS – I have had one liners on statements issued by HCF, presumably where the client pays a full year’s premium on 1 July 2013.
Hopefully the ATO knows this?"
