“I am aware that a lot of agents have an issue with changing the preference for Business Activity Statements back to paper once an electronic lodgment has been made.

My issue however is with the issue of paper quarterly instalment notices being sent to wherever the ATO likes. I have several clients who pay quarterly PAYG instalments and these have always been lodged through ELS. The clients had for a period dropped out of the PAYG system and since coming back into the system paper notices are being issued each quarter.

In one case of a husband and wife whose address for services of notices has always been my address, the current situation is that her notice is sent to me and his is sent to their residential address. There is no mail delivery to their residential address and it is only because the local post office know to place the notice in their PO Box that they even receive.

I was under the impression that the ATO are working towards a paperless environment. It may be more helpful if they stopped sending these unnecessary notices.”
