THE ATO RESPONDS to the feedback from Members 100 and 101 in last week's edition of TAXVINE - see 2014 TAXVINE No 27 (1 August 2014):
"We recently issued the 2014 year annual instalment notices (Form N) with annual instalment amounts and due dates to PAYG instalment taxpayers. Some taxpayers who exited the PAYG instalment system during the 2013-14 year incorrectly received an instalment notice. We have contacted all agents affected by this error where we have a valid email address providing lists of affected clients and confirming that the instalment notice can be disregarded. Some clients of tax agents received their notices directly; we have issued individual letters to each of these clients. A process is underway to cancel the incorrect annual instalment notices which will result in the portal reflecting the correct status. We expect this process to be completed by 8 August 2014. Once your clients’ 2014 income tax returns are lodged, we will issue a notice of assessment which will advise them of any income tax due. We accept that our earlier emails on this matter could have been clearer. Should you wish to call the ATO to discuss this matter further, please call 13 72 86 and advise the customer service officer that you have an annual instalment notice issue that needs resolving."
