"The ATO have jumped the gun on this one. This new requirement that only administrators can apply for an ABN for a client is causing a raft of problems for our small firm.

It is normal practice in our firm (and I assume many others) for a junior member of staff to apply for a client’s ABN. We now have to either make that junior staff member an administrator on the Portal (which gives them the power to remove, add or upgrade other staff members – or anyone for that matter - including the partners, at their whim), or have a partner apply for the ABN!

This is a ridiculous waste of a senior practitioner’s resources! Wake up ATO, and think about these things before putting them in practice!"
