We are having some extreme difficulties with the ATO's procedures for new registrant entities. Even though a tax file number has been issued, the income tax account is not active on the ATO Portal. As new taxpayers often have an earlier lodgement due date for their first income tax return it is difficult for the tax agent to assist their client in paying the tax liability by the due date as we are not able to download any payment details. The client won't receive any paper payment details until after the return has been lodged and by then the payment would be overdue.
Wouldn't it be easier and less time consuming for the tax agent, the taxpayer and the ATO to activate the income tax account on the Portal as soon as the tax file number has been issued rather than the tax agent having to telephone the ATO every time just for BPAY details?"
