"Why must the ATO change things without consultation! Just received the latest batch of letters advising clients that they are entering the PAYGI system. In the past the covering letter told them that there was an annual option, what number to phone to access it, and the date it needed to be done by. There was also a brochure explaining the system. Not now.
I can appreciate the cost savings that result from merely referring them to a web page instead. However, in the event that they are computer literate, and can access the internet, the website itself makes no mention of an annual option. So now I have to draft an insert explaining the system to clients and how to do it annually if they prefer. Another job handballed to the agent."
THE TAX INSTITUTE’S TAX COUNSEL, STEPHANIE CAREDES, COMMENTS: “The ATO held workshops with practitioners who are members of the ATO Tax Practitioner Advisory Group and former Accounting Working Group to try to determine a better way to provide the relevant information through a more simple format. A summary of how to elect to pay an annual PAYG instalment can be found on the ATO website here.”
