“I accept that the ATO chooses to send correspondence to wherever they decide.
However, when clients are in nursing homes, use PO addresses for security, are about to move home or just do not wish to be, unjustly, intimidated by the ATO, I have used my business address as their residential address. I would have preferred not to resort to this system but it does work very successfully.
The ATO has now announced it has ‘teamed up with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) to remind people to update their enrolment when they change address.’: Workforce education news – Issue 4/2011.
As tax advisers have been forced by the ATO to use the business address as the client's residential address, it seems foolhardy of the ATO to present this as a change of address to the AEC.”
