"I refer to the title of the ATO website page 'Reduce the risk of refund fraud in your practice'
I know it may seem pedantic but; in criminal law, fraud is intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another.
As there is no intentional deception on behalf of my practice, or one would assume, on the part of any accounting practice, there is no risk of fraud in my practice.
There is a risk that we may be inadvertently used by someone who is defrauding the Government.
I guess one has to question would the ATO change the title of this document to 'Reduce the risk of refund fraud in the ATO'? Does this make sense? No!
Perhaps a more apt title would be 'Help the ATO reduce the risk of refund fraud'."
