"It concerns me that the ATO last year did not provide an e-tax facility for those members of the public who wanted to lodge their own returns but could not because they had Apple Macs. I suspect that this resulted in many people with relatively simple returns seeking the assistance of members to lodge these returns on their behalf. What is being done to ensure that members are not called on to lodge these 'nuisance' returns this year?"
ATO RESPONSE: "The ATO is aware of this issue and acknowledges that such a facility would be useful. However, the ATO does not consider the requirement for this facility to be urgent or of high priority for the taxpayer/tax agent community at the present time. As a result, and owing to resource constraints in relation to information technology upgrades, the ATO is not currently working on resolving this issue."
