“Has anyone else noticed that the ATO has started calling clients directly rather than calling us as Tax Agents first? It has happened to clients at our practice about 6 or 7 times in the past 2 months and it’s becoming increasingly aggravating for clients who hire us as Tax Agents to deal with the ATO yet for some reason they have just started bypassing us and going directly to clients! Is anyone aware of a change in policy by the ATO to start doing this or had the same thing happen? Not only that, when you call to ask why this happened they have no answer for you as to why this would be the case! Note to the ATO, our clients hire us to deal with you and we are the primary contact, so call us first ………….. bypassing the Tax Agent and aggravating their clients is probably not a smart way to endear yourselves to either party! Very frustrating!”
