21 May 1010 On the ATO not using postal addressesMEMBER 163 writes:
"On behalf of Taxation Institute Members, I request that the Taxation Institute of Australia put pressure on the ATO to stop them sending correspondence and notices to a taxpayer's residential address.
The "postal address" is recorded for a reason - to be used as the postal address!!!
If we as tax agents or the taxpayer wanted correspondence sent to the taxpayer's residential address we / they would show the residential address as the postal address.
As has been pointed out previously, clients/taxpayers often do not update their residential address with the ATO (or even us) until the next tax return is lodged, however, the postal address is most often kept current.
We are getting sick and tired of trying to get the ATO to listen to our requests, so request that the Taxation Institue pursue this matter on behalf of members."
