"Love the cash economy audits.
I just had a client who had a visit from the ATO about four weeks ago as her figures were better than the benchmark. The ATO was impressed with her record keeping which I know is excellent and was advised the ATO was happy with what she was doing.
Today I received a letter from the ATO advising that her income was too low and that she should check her records. The income was based on her tax with no mention of her husband's income nor the tax free pension she is getting from her SMSF (total income 134K).
Perhaps the left arm could learn what the right arm is doing and accept that people over sixty with low income are likely to have other income not required to be disclosed on the tax return."
