"With the changes in the Foreign Income provisions (s 23AG) taxable incomes will be greatly increased, with the resultant increase in Medicare Levy collection.
I have a client who works overseas for 9-10 months per year and whilst the non-resident provisions cannot be relied on the taxpayer's levy has been considerably increased.
The medical expenses incurred by the taxpayer overseas cannot be recouped from Medicare because the medical providers are not registered under the Act.
A Wayne Swan double edged sword - more collection but no payout."
