"I came across an issue that seriously worries me. We hadn’t received one of our client's IAS forms from the ATO, so my secretary checked on the Tax Agent Portal to see what was happening. It appeared the postal address had been changed to a PO Box address in South Australia (we are in Sydney). When my secretary called the ATO to find out why this was changed the reply was that it was done by an 'outside collection agency', but she couldn't get any further details.
How on earth can an outside collection agency either have access to the TAP or be able to change my client's postal address for IAS and BAS? I consider this a very serious breach of privacy, but the ATO cannot give me any further info.
Is this legal? What else have these collection agencies access to?"
