17 May 2019 PLS lodgment on 15 May

Today is 16th of May. The day after the lodgment deadline for most of our tax returns. Time to reflect on the first full year of lodging under the new PLS system.
Overall the system has worked okay, however there are still big issues when the system is under peak demand. Like yesterday afternoon. It took us 3 hours to lodge our final 20 tax returns yesterday. We tried big batches and small batches. We even tried single lodgments at a time. It seemed to be very hit and miss as to whether the lodgments would be accepted, or fail. The common result was that about one quarter to one half would lodge then the others would fail. So, we would just try the failed ones again.
On three occasions we received the message that we were trying to submit a duplicate return, even though we had not previously accepted lodgement for that return. When we checked these on the Portal (the new Portal), two show as lodged and the third remains as outstanding.
I know, we should not leave lodgments until the last minute, but dare I say it… we never had these issues with the ELS system.
To our friends at the ATO. Can you please review the performance of the PLS system yesterday and work improvements for next year?
