09 Mar 12 Preamble - 9 March 2012
On Monday of this week we saw the swearing-in of The Hon David Bradbury MP, after being promoted to the role of Assistant Treasurer and Minister Assisting for Deregulation. The Minister was formerly Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and before that, Chair of the Economics Caucus Committee of the Government He has been Mayor of Penrith, NSW and a Senior Associate specialising in tax at Blake Dawson (as it then was).
I met briefly with the Minister earlier this week and he is very keen to again sit down with The Tax Institute to advance the key tax policy issues on our respective agendas. We look forward to continuing our open, constructive and productive working relationship with the Minister and his office.
The Minister will be in Canberra next week (for Parliament), as will many members for The Tax Institute’s National Convention – the premier event for tax professionals. Featuring over 30 sessions covering the very latest technical content with ample networking opportunities, it is not to be missed.
Many of Australia's leading tax experts and luminaries will be in attendance, ensuring that the keynote sessions and presentations are of the highest quality. Keynotes include: The Hon. Robert French AC, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia; The Hon Wayne Swan MP, Deputy Prime Minister and Treasurer; Michael D’Ascenzo AO, Commissioner of Taxation; and Chris Jordan AO, Chairman of the Board of Taxation. I look forward to seeing many members next week.
