21 May 1010 Preamble - Friday, 21 May 2010Over the past week, the Taxation Institute has delivered Henry Tax Review road shows in most capital cities. I have very much welcomed the opportunity to meet with Members around the country as I joined eminent practitioners in presenting at these sessions. Thank you to those who generously gave of their time to participate and engage in the quality discussion.
The next step is to maintain the debate on tax reform by engaging with the Government on the priority issues in the remaining Henry recommendations. I will keep you posted on progress in this area as we identify the key focus areas for members.
The shutdown of the ATO's Tax Agent Portal over the weekend has been causing significant frustration for Members with the shutdown extending well into this week. This is having a detrimental impact on tax agents who are trying to meet lodgment requirements. The ATO issued a statement to practitioners on Wednesday, 19 May 2010 acknowledging the difficulties. We have had discussions with senior management in the ATO about Members' concerns and we will continue to pursue the issues at the ATPF meeting on Friday, 21 May 2010.
Please see below for details of other activities this week.
