This week the Taxation Institute President, David Williams FTIA, Vice-President, Peter Murray FTIA (KPMG) and I sat down with the key tax policy and administration stakeholders of the new Parliament. We held separate productive discussions with both the Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation, the Hon Bill Shorten MP, and the Shadow Assistant Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation, Senator Mathias Cormann. We raised the key issues of concern to members including: unpaid present entitlements, financial planners and the Tax Agent Services regime, excess super contributions tax, private equity determinations, the resources tax and further tax reform. The Minister and Shadow Minister both welcomed the opportunity for ongoing dialogue with the Taxation Institute on addressing the key issues in tax, which will contribute to achieving a better tax system.
