Private Health Insurance Bills refused second reading - Government has another "trigger"
25 Feb 2010
On 24 February 2010, the Senate refused to allow a second reading of the following Bills:
- Fairer Private Health Insurance Incentives (Medicare Levy Surcharge) Bill 2009 [No 2]
- Fairer Private Health Insurance Incentives (Medicare Levy Surcharge - Fringe Benefits) Bill 2009 [No 2].
An earlier set of Bills was refused a second reading in the Senate on 9 September 2009, resulting in their defeat. Having been defeated a second time, the Bills become another double dissolution "trigger" for the Governement.
For details of the Bills, see 2010 TAXVINE No 4 (5 February 2010).
