17 Jun 13 Proposed registration requirements for registered tax (financial) advisers
The Commonwealth Treasury has released a discussion paper outlining the proposed educational and experience requirements for tax (financial) advisers which an individual would need to meet to be registered as a tax (financial) adviser, as envisaged in amendments contained in the Tax Laws Amendment (2013 Measures No 2) Bill 2013: Proposed registration requirements for registered tax (financial) advisers (June 2013).
The key design principles of these proposed requirements are that a person should:
- be either a financial services licensee or a representative of a licensee, and
- have an appropriate breadth of tax knowledge, although not necessarily to the same depth as a tax agent, given the different focus of the advice.
The closing date for submissions is Thursday, 11 July 2013.
