In joint media release No 2010/058, issued 20 May 2010, the Minister for Small Business, Independent Contractors and The Service Economy, Craig Emerson, and the Minister for Human Services, Chris Bowen, announced that eligible small businesses will be able register to use the Government's free Small Business Superannuation Clearing House from Monday, 24 May 2010.

"The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House delivers on the Rudd Government's election commitment to reduce the red-tape burden for small businesses associated with the choice of fund rules introduced by the previous Government," Mr Bowen said.

"This free service helps small businesses to save on time and paperwork by enabling them to pay their employees' superannuation to a single location in just one simple electronic transaction. The Clearing House will then send the contributions to the appropriate superannuation fund and employers will be able to access a record of their contribution history whenever it's needed," Mr Bowen said.

"I encourage small businesses with fewer than 20 staff to register early to use the free service online by visiting," Dr Emerson said.

Registering for the service is easy. Small businesses can enter their business details, and once they receive their login details they can enter their employee's details and finalise the registration online. As previously announced, the service will commence from 1 July 2010.
