In my opinion, STP is going to be a disaster for many small and in particular, micro businesses.

The red tape currently surrounding the administration of employees is already a burden, but obviously a necessary one. 

But when change becomes necessary, surely the ATO must be looking to implement systems that both complement their needs and assist the employer with their obligations, not hinder them. 

Medium and large (and some small) businesses generally have dedicated personnel handling the reporting and STP will be most likely be of little concern to them. 

But to report in the same manner for many small and micro businesses will be a far greater burden. 

There are many out there who are “old school” in their record keeping…. and for many of those it has worked very well. 

I would have thought a simple form that coincides with reporting wages on BAS (or possibly an attachment to the BAS) that declares exactly who you are paying and how much etc for the period, would be the obvious choice. 

Even if the option to do so is limited with employers with gross wages or PAYGW under a particular threshold. 

Having a blanket reporting system may be OK for many, but certainly not everyone.

I honestly feel that the ATO over complicate reporting for the small business community at almost every opportunity.
