The ATO advises that towards the end of March 2013, it will email 3,300 registered tax agents who lodge some or all of their clients' returns by paper. The ATO is encouraging them to lodge electronically and to contact it if they have any questions about electronic lodgment.
The ATO says that it has previously advised these tax agents of the changes that will begin with the lodgment program for 2013-14. They must do both of the following:
- lodge their clients' annual income tax and fringe benefits tax returns electronically to receive the concessional due dates available under the lodgment program
- lodge 85% or more of their clients' current year returns by the lodgment program due date or, if a deferral is granted, the deferred due date.
