30 Sep 09 Tax practitioner research 2009-10

The ATO has announced that it is conducting research to understand the environment that tax practitioners work in, the key drivers of their workloads and their interactions with their clients and the ATO.

A suite of research projects will be undertaken:

  • A qualitative phase with tax agents and bookkeepers who are in the business of providing business activity statement (BAS) services for a fee
  • State of the Industry quantitative research with tax agents and bookkeepers who are in the business of providing BAS services for a fee
  • Tax agent perceptions survey
  • Tax agent services survey.

For the qualitative phase, tax practitioners will be contacted by phone with an invitation to participate in focus groups or online bulletin boards during October 2009. The State of the Industry research with tax agents, tax agent perceptions survey and tax agent services survey will be conducted online during January to March 2010. During the State of the Industry research, a questionnaire will also be mailed to randomly selected bookkeepers who are in the business of providing BAS services for a fee during January and February 2010.
