In light of the Anstis case, the Taxation Institute recommends in the article, that students should ensure their records are up to date with the ATO as well as keeping written records for all study related expenses.
We were also mentioned in the Australian Financial Review on Monday 21 February 2011: “Private equity tax outlook unclear”. The article reports on a presentation by ATO Deputy Chief Tax Counsel Des Maloney at a recent Taxation Institute presentation in Melbourne.
The Australian Financial Review mentioned the Taxation Institute on Tuesday 22 February 2011: “Red tape swamps small owners”. The article indicates that the Professional Associations jointly believe that the ATO’s interpretation of the rules for unpaid present entitlements cannot be justified and call for an urgent test case.
On suggestions the Government might delay the tax summit, the Australian Financial Review today refers to the Tax Institute's growing impatience about the lack of details on the event: "Tax forum could be postponed".
