MEMBER 115 responds to the comments of 2 members in last week's TAXVINE - see 2013 TAXVINE No 20 (31 May 2013):
"Last week Member 111 wrote that they refuse to take calls from ATO debt collectors. You DO want to know what is happening to a client. This means that when he comes in next year you will ask him for his fees up front. Alternatively you can get very aggressive about getting your fees paid first as you are forewarned that the client may be put into bankruptcy by the ATO. If you are a Proactive Accountant, you can offer them extra services for a substantial fee, of improving their cash flow, and this will enable the payment of your outstanding fees.
As for Member 112, I have not lodged a paper tax return for about 15 years. I never realized that they still existed."

THE TAX INSTITUTE'S TAX COUNSEL, STEPHANIE CAREDES, COMMENTS: "Following on from Member 112's query about whether 2012 forms can be used to lodge 2013 returns, the 2013 return forms are now available through the ATO website (see link). If a copy of a form is required and cannot be downloaded from the ATO website, members should contact the ATO to request a copy via the ATO Publication Ordering Service."
