27 Feb 15 The curious case of the missing assessment

"Many months ago we lodged an Income Tax Return for a client. As expected, the tax refund was credited to her tax account.

BUT, there was no Notice of Assessment issued. The pothole just says "Issued taxable".

Our client wishes to apply for a home loan, and her lender has requested a copy of the Notice of Assessment.

With client present, we try calling the ATO. The ATO call centre operator confirmed the Notice has not been issued, but seemed quite vague and evasive when asked why not.

One of the best kept secrets in Australia is the extent of chaos at the ATO. Sssshh. Don't tell anyone."
