The ATO has acknowledged that there are errors with information shown on the Tax Agent Portal and advises that the following known Portal issues require no action from agents:

  • Newly registered clients show an incorrect status of ‘not lodged’ for years prior to registration.
  • An agent receives a 'contact the ATO' message when attempting to submit a RNN or Further return not necessary (FRNN). The ATO may have already entered the RNN or FRNN if the agent's client is a Centrelink recipient, a minor beneficiary or a subsidiary member of a consolidated group who is not required to lodge.

The ATO says that while these known issues can cause confusion for Portal users, the cost to rectify is considerable and would only have a short term benefit as the ATO anticipates future developments of its information technology will naturally address them.
