The Tax Institute was quoted in the Weekend Australian Financial Review on 3-4 December: “Family trusts dodge tax crackdown” in relation to the proposed rewrite of the legislation governing the taxation of trusts. The Tax Institute says that there is so much in this paper, it’s extremely positive there’s such a wide-ranging scope for this review.
We were also quoted on Tuesday 6 December in Smart Company: “Could your business end up paying no company tax? Working group flags tax overhaul” in relation to allowance for corporate equity being examined by the Business Tax Reform Working Group. The Tax Institute says the effect it may have is to lead people to have a greater reliance on equity financing because it'll be cheaper. The theoretical benefit is an efficiency dividend. The Tax Institute was quoted in The Australian on Friday 9 December: Taxpayers ambushed by government's stand-and-deliver tactics relation to the inappropriateness of retrospective legislation, especially in the context of the recently announced changes to the consolidation regime.
