02 Nov 12 The Tax Institute in the Media
On 31 October an opinion piece by The Tax Institute was published in the Australian Financial Review: ‘Tax reform: time to bite bullet’. The piece speaks of the need for tax reform and contrasts the economic situations in the US and Australia.
Also on 31 October we had a separate opinion piece published in the Canberra Times: ‘Leading by way of tax reform’ regarding the ACT political situation and the potential for a tax reform plan to emerge that could lead the nation.
This piece also generated its own page 2 preview story: ‘Reforms can lead way’
The Canberra Times opinion piece was reproduced online in the SMH, The Age, WA Today, and the Brisbane Times.
On 31 October Robert Jeremenko CTA was interviewed by Radio 2CC regarding tax reform.
We were also quoted in Smart Company that day: ‘Tax Office says it has a heart: Tax collections up but payment arrangement schemes double’ regarding payment arrangements for small businesses. In the article we say that there is a willingness on the ATO's part to enter these arrangements with businesses struggling to pay their tax debts and it demonstrates the ATO's recognition of the tough situation these businesses are in.
On 1 November, the ABC’s 7.30 TV Program aired a story about the ATO: ‘Tax office stands accused of bullying behaviour’, which included an interview with The Tax Institute’s President, Ken Schurgott CTA. You can view the program and read the transcript here.
